Jackie Jena

Jackie Jena is a storyteller, strategist, and former lawyer with more than 15 years of experience in communications, global development, and advocacy. She is currently the Director of Communications at Public Rights Project, where she leads external engagement, messaging, and media strategy to help local governments protect civil rights.

Before joining PRP, Jackie led strategic communications at IREX, a global nonprofit working in over 100 countries. She directed the organization’s brand, developed messaging frameworks, and managed media and campaigns that elevated the voices of local changemakers. Her work helped safeguard the role of independent journalism, expand access to education, and drive support for locally-led development solutions.

Earlier in her career, Jackie worked across Africa and Europe on issues ranging from girls’ education, economic development, civic participation and government accountability. She began her professional journey as a public prosecutor in South Africa and Zimbabwe. She later transitioned into marketing and communications, combining her legal background with a passion for justice and storytelling that drives social change.

Jackie is known for her calm leadership, narrative intuition, and deep belief in the power of communications to shift systems, build trust, and advance equity. She holds a law degree from Rhodes University and a graduate degree in marketing from ESCP Europe Business School. She is a proud wife and mom of two boys. Jackie draws inspiration from global sisterhood, justice movements, and the quiet power of words.
