Local election workers – and our democracy – are under attack like never before. These officials – 80% of them are women – are bearing the brunt of policies aimed at undermining their authority as well as threats of violence from extremists.

They need immediate legal support to do their jobs, ensure every vote counts, and protect our elections from subversion.

Join us for Seeking Justice 2024, our second annual gala to honor the unlikely heroes who are protecting our democracy one town, county, and city at a time. The evening will include recognition of our 2024 Justice Seekers, a fireside chat moderated by Melissa Murray, legal scholar and co-host of The Strict Scrutiny Podcast, and a glimpse at our first-ever Election Protection Hub.

2024 JUSTICE SEEKERS

Meet our 2024 Justice Seekers who are fighting tirelessly for their communities and defending our democracy.

Sherry Boston (she/her)
District Attorney for Dekalb County, GA

Sherry Boston stands among the elite in the field of prosecution as part of the rare one percent of African American females currently serving as District Attorney in the U.S. In her role as District Attorney, Boston has demonstrated courageousness and a tremendous commitment to advancing civil rights. In Boston v. State of Georgia, Boston is challenging the anti-democratic SB 92 law, which creates an unconstitutional oversight commission that threatens prosecutorial independence and overrides the will of Georgia voters. (Public Rights Project is representing Boston in this case).

Amy Fitzpatrick (she/her)
County Solicitor for Bucks County, PA

As the first female County Solicitor in Bucks County, Amy Fitzpatrick (Public Rights Project Affirmative Leaders 2022 Fellow) has displayed immense dedication to defending the communities she serves. Currently, Fitzpatrick is taking on big oil in a case focused on decades-long climate deception. The case aims to shift the financial burden of the climate crisis from the taxpayers of Bucks County to the companies responsible for creating the crisis.

2023 Justice Seekers

Attorney General Rob Bonta (CA)

Assistant Attorney General David Ureña (MA)

Speakers

Melissa Murray (she/her)
Frederick I. and Grace Stokes Professor of Law at NYU School of Law

Melissa Murray is a co-author (with Andrew Weissman) of the book The Trump Indictments: The Historic Charging Documents with Commentary. She served as a judicial clerk to Justice Sonia Sotomayor, then a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and Stefan Underhill of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Amy Fitzpatrick (she/her)
County Solicitor for Bucks County, PA

As the chief legal officer, Amy Fitzpatrick has been on the frontlines of elections since November 2020 - a pivotal year for Pennsylvania, which permitted no-excuse mail-in voting for the first time. Prior to joining the county, Fitzpatrick worked at two national law firms handling complex commercial litigation.

Eli Savit (he/him)
Elected Prosecuting Attorney for Washtenaw County, MI

Eli Savit has spearheaded successful diversion programs aimed at promoting rehabilitation, allowing individuals facing lower-level crimes to avoid criminal records. Savit has also led public interest lawsuits against banks, the opioid industry, slumlords, and corporate polluters.
