Reflecting back on the many milestones we’ve reached since Public Rights Project launched in 2017, I am reminded of the power of people from all walks of life to come together for a shared purpose, to share hopes and aspirations for a more inclusive society that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.
It is precisely why I joined the fight for justice. And I hope you will too.
I am reminded by folks like Jon Miller, Chief of the Public Advocacy and Protection Bureau at the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. Jon was instrumental in challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), paving the way for LGBTQ Americans and allies across the country to advocate for and cement marriage equality as the law of the land.
I am also reminded by organizations like Georgetown University Law Center’s Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP), with whom we are working to defend Gary, Indiana’s “Welcoming City” Ordinance and protect Gary residents’ right to live in safe and welcoming neighborhoods regardless of their immigration status.
Or talented and committed lawyers like David Ureña, who prior to joining our inaugural cohort of fellows, successfully represented two street vendors in New York City who had been denied a decent, living wage and overtime pay.
This Giving Season, will you join the fight to help advance the work of our fellows and partners? Every $1 you donate towards justice will be match up to $50,000 by a generous donor. In just 2 weeks, we have raised over $12,000 toward our $50k goal. You can help us get there.
The fight for a more equal and just society will be won battle by battle, case by case. We cannot stop now. Join the fight.
