Public Rights Project was founded in 2017 to help local government officials fight for civil rights. We use legal advocacy, capacity building, convenings, and storytelling to advance civil rights and strengthen democracy. Senior Staff Attorney, Litigation

Public Rights Project seeks to hire an experienced litigator to serve as a Senior Staff Attorney on its Litigation Team. The Senior Staff Attorney will be a key member of PRP’s Litigation Team, advancing the work of local governments protecting civil rights in the face of attacks by the federal government, as well as state governments and private actors. The Senior Staff Attorney will lead cases and case teams in litigation, lead case development and strategy discussions, conduct and oversee research, lead internal and external meetings, and manage various litigation and pre-litigation activities. The Litigation Team is expected to handle matters in which government clients are both plaintiffs and defendants and in both state and federal courts.

This position reports to the Litigation Director. This position will also work closely with other Litigation Team staff, the Director of PRP’s Civil Rights Hub, the Director of PRP’s Election Protection Hub, and other Program Team staff.

Managing Attorney, Litigation

The Managing Attorney is a key leader on the Litigation Team. This role is central to PRP’s program team, pursuing complex and important litigation on behalf of local governments across the country. In addition to advocacy work, the Managing Attorney oversees PRP’s law clerk program, supervising and mentoring PRP’s legal fellows, as well as the Litigation Team’s paralegals. In close collaboration with the Litigation Director, the Managing Attorney designs, implements, and refines systems that support the quality, efficiency, sustainability, and impact of PRP’s litigation work. This role is ideal for someone who is motivated by doing both litigation as well as people and program management.

Senior Staff Attorney, Election Protection Hub

Public Rights Project seeks to hire an experienced attorney to serve as a Senior Staff Attorney in its Election Protection Hub. The Senior Staff Attorney will be a key member of PRP’s team representing and advising state, local, and tribal election officials in support of election administration and the expansion of voting rights.

The Senior Staff Attorney will help lead the EPH’s technical assistance efforts, oversee amicus brief production, conduct partnership meetings, and assist litigation activities.

This position reports to the Election Protection Hub Director. This position will also work closely with the Chief Program Officer, other program team directors, Election Protection Hub staff, and other Program Team staff.

Chief Development Officer

Public Rights Project seeks to hire a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to join its executive leadership team and help guide the organization through its next stage of growth. Building on a strong fundraising foundation, PRP’s revenues have grown from $7M to $15M over the past three years. PRP has earned support from an impressive and expanding roster of institutional partners, while also significantly strengthening its major donor pipeline. The CDO will lead a team to meet its 2026 annual revenue goal of ~$20M. In partnership with the Development team and senior leadership, the CDO will also help drive a strategy to continue scaling annual revenue, diversifying funding, and deepening long-term philanthropic support.

Deputy Director, Election Protection Hub

Public Rights Project is seeking an experienced attorney and manager to serve as Deputy Director of the Election Protection Hub. This key leadership role advises and represents state, local, and tribal election officials to support election administration and expand voting rights. Reporting to and working alongside the Director of Election Protection Hub, the Deputy Director will supervise staff attorneys and the program coordinator, support strategic advocacy efforts, and serve as a senior advisor on all Hub matters. Responsibilities include drafting and overseeing amicus briefs and technical assistance materials, representing the program in meetings with government and coalition partners, and collaborating with the Director to design and refine systems that strengthen the quality, efficiency, and impact of the Hub’s work.

Director, Election Protection Hub

Public Rights Project is seeking an experienced attorney and leader to serve as Director of the Election Protection Hub, responsible for overseeing the program and leading its strategy to support local election officials in protecting voting rights and ensuring safe, fair elections. The Director manages the Election Protection Hub team, coordinates cross-functional staff across the organization, and oversees key activities including providing technical assistance to election officials, filing amicus briefs, conducting outreach to government and nonprofit partners, convening collaborators, contributing insights for media and publications, supporting development efforts, and working with the Director of Litigation to identify and develop high-impact election-related cases in state and federal courts. The Director will collaborate closely with Pubic Rights Project’s Chief Program Officer, Director of Litigation, and Director of the Civil Rights Hub to advance strategic partnerships with state and local governments and civil rights organizations.
